Introducing Rider Check-in points at restaurants

Reducing your wait times at restaurants

Waiting for your order at the restaurant can be frustrating - that's why it's one of our top priorities to make this happen less.

Sometimes you have to wait because the food hasn't been prepared on time. To help reduce wait times we're finding ways to give both you and restaurants more reliable, trusted ways to know when the order is ready and you have arrived.

For restaurants, we’ve recently introduced 'Order Ready' and 'Need More Time' buttons so you know when an order is running early or late. To help restaurants know for sure when you've arrived we're rolling out something new.

You’ll soon see Rider Check-in points at some restaurants – a Deliveroo poster and an NFC tag – which you should use to confirm that you’ve arrived.

When you arrive at the restaurant, tap Arrived as usual and then simply tap the back of your phone against the check-in point and the restaurant will know you're right there, ready to collect the order. For iPhones, tap the top back of your phone on the check-in point. For Androids, tap the top or centre of the back of your phone on the check-in point and you’ll need to enable NFC in your phone settings.

If you’re having any trouble finding the Rider Check-in point, ask the staff at the restaurant to show you where it is.

These check-in points will provide restaurants with more accurate data about your arrival time, so that you can collect your orders quickly and get back on the road.

We'd love to hear your feedback on the check-in points so if you'd like to share, get in touch.

FAQs

  • How do I check in at the restaurant?

When you arrive at the restaurant, the rider app will ask you to check in to the restaurant by tapping the back of your phone on the designated check-point. For iPhones, tap the top back of your phone on the check-in point. For Androids, tap the top or centre of the back of your phone on the check-in point and you’ll need to enable NFC in your phone settings.

By checking in, the NFC tag on the checkpoint will let the restaurant know you’ve arrived to collect the order, and the rider app will automatically mark you as ‘arrived.’

  • What should I do if I can’t find the Rider Check-in point at the restaurant, or if it’s not working?

You’ll need to check in on the poster before you can collect the order. If you’re having any trouble finding the Rider Check-in point at the restaurant, speak to the restaurant staff to help you find it.

If the check-in point is not working, remove your phone case and try again. If it’s still not working, tell the restaurant staff about the issue and follow the instructions in the rider app to unassign from the order.

  • My phone doesn't have NFC enabled so I can’t check in at the restaurant.

On an Android, you can enable NFC in your phone settings. On an iPhone, NFC is automatically enabled and there is no need to adjust your settings. If you don’t have NFC available on your phone then you’ll continue to arrive and collect orders as before.
