New ways to earn: Introducing return orders

We’re always looking for new ways to help you earn more when you ride with Deliveroo. That’s why we’re excited to introduce grocery and shopping returns - a new way for you to earn even more while riding!

For some grocery or shopping orders, if you can’t complete the delivery to the customer, you’ll receive an extra fee to return it to the shop – this is called a return order. You’ll be offered return orders in the rider app as usual, with a note under the customer address that says ‘Return if required.’

If you choose to accept a return order, you should deliver it to the customer as usual. When you get to the delivery address, if you can't find the customer and they don't respond, the app will ask you to return the order to the shop, rather than leave it in a safe place.

Here’s how it works

You can choose whether to return the order immediately, or anytime that’s convenient within 24 hours.

If you choose to return the order right away, the rider app will show you the map to go back to the shop. Tap ‘Arrived’ and then confirm the return with the shop staff using a two digit confirmation code and complete the order.

If you choose to complete the return later you can tap ‘Return 1 order’ on the home screen whenever you're not delivering an order to start the return process.

You'll see on the accept or reject screen whether an order requires a return. If you accept the order, you're agreeing to return it if you can't deliver the order. If you don't want to complete an order with a return you're completely free to reject these orders, the same as any other order.

If you, or a substitute delivering orders on your behalf, accept a return order and do not take it back to the shop before it’s due, you won’t be able to go online until you complete the overdue return. Failing to return the order to the shop would be a breach of your supplier agreement and could lead to your rider account being terminated, meaning you will no longer be able to work with Deliveroo.
