Deliveroo has always been committed to ensuring we offer the flexible, self employed work that you tell us you value. Your views are crucial in helping us continue to improve how we work together - that's why we're focused on listening to your feedback through our surveys, through Rider Support, and through our dedicated Rider Engagement Team.
Today we're pleased to build on that commitment by announcing that Deliveroo has signed an agreement with the GMB Union, one of the largest trade unions in the UK.
This first-of-a-kind voluntary partnership means that Deliveroo will work directly with the GMB on issues that matter to you.
At present, riders are paid the national living wage for the time it takes to complete an order, though the majority earn significantly more than this. We will make this pay floor a guarantee and discuss this rate with the GMB annually. We will also consult with the GMB on issues such as benefits (like insurance), health and safety, and diversity and inclusion - so over time you will see us continue to improve the way we work together and our offer to you.
The GMB will also be able to represent and support individual riders who are GMB members in resolving certain issues directly with Deliveroo.
This partnership will start in September 2022 and it's up to you whether you choose to become a GMB member (you won't automatically become a GMB member).
The core features of being a Deliveroo rider that you enjoy today will stay exactly the same - you'll continue to work with us as a self-employed rider, continue to have full freedom to work when and where you want, and to complete only the orders that you want.
More information on the partnership and how to become a GMB member will be available through the rider website, our company website, and the GMB website in the coming months. You can also contact the GMB directly at GMBrider@gmb.org.uk.
We're excited to work with the GMB to continue to create the best possible rider experience - offering you flexibility, security and certainty over your earnings.
