Our priority is your safety and security, and that includes the security of your rider account and access to the rider app. To help ensure this we conduct selfie checks in the rider app to regularly verify your identity and keep your account secure.
As a self-employed rider, you’re free to allow someone else to ride on your account as long as your substitute meets the requirements to ride with Deliveroo, including having a valid right to work. To further protect your account, from 24 April, we’re rolling out selfie checks to include your substitutes. These selfie checks will include Deliveroo checking whether your substitute has the right to work in the UK. If you allow someone to use your account who cannot provide proof of their right to work in this country, you would be in breach of your supplier agreement.
Your selfie check
When it’s time to complete your identity verification check, simply select that you are the main account holder and complete the check as usual. Once you pass the check, you can continue completing deliveries as normal.
Selfie check for your substitute
If your substitute is riding on your account when it’s time to complete the identity verification check, they should select ‘I’m not the main account holder’ and they’ll need to create their substitute account. After they’ve added in their details, we’ll send them an email so they can complete their registration and their identity and right to work checks.
Check out the section ‘Your substitute completes their registration’ below for more details for your substitute.
Adding your substitute to your rider account
If you regularly let someone else use your account you can create a profile for them in your rider app in advance so that they can complete orders linked to your rider account. This will make engaging a substitute easier and simpler for you. Here’s how it works.
From your Profile page in the rider app, tap ‘Subcontractors’, then the + symbol in the upper right corner. Confirm you’ve read your rights and responsibilities when engaging a substitute, then add in their details. We’ll send your substitute an email so they can complete their registration, and we’ll send you an email confirming you’ve added your substitute.
If you’ve shared your rider account login details with your substitute they will no longer need this as they will be given their own login details, so you may want to update your password for the security of your rider account.
Your substitute completes their registration
Once your substitute receives our email and accepts the invite, they can download the rider app and login with their own email address and go online immediately to begin delivering orders.
As soon as your substitute taps ‘Go online’, they’ll have to complete their eligibility checks (a right to work check and an identity check). Your substitute will need to verify their right to work by uploading a valid document, such as a passport, visa or birth certificate. While we’re checking their documents, they can continue completing orders.
If your substitute does not successfully complete the checks in time, or their documents need to be resubmitted, both you and your substitute will be unable to go online until this is complete.
Remember, you’re responsible for your substitute and orders they complete using your account. It’s your responsibility to ensure that any substitute you choose to appoint meets the requirements to ride with Deliveroo, including having the valid right to work.
If you allow someone to use your account who cannot provide proof of their right to work in this country as self-employed, you would be in breach of your supplier agreement. If this happens your account will be terminated, and neither you nor your substitute will be able to complete deliveries.
We hope that this update will continue to keep you and your account safe.
