The Government is proposing a new 'Crime and Policing Bill' designed to improve safety and the response to crime in the UK. The Bill currently intends to make it a criminal offence to assault or threaten retail workers at their place of work.
Everyone should have the right to work without fear for their safety. That's why we're launching our 'Right to Ride Safely' campaign and calling on the Government to make it a specific criminal offence to assault delivery riders like you.
The Government’s proposed Crime and Policing Bill covers shop workers and we’re asking for riders like you to be included as well.
Whether collecting the order from the partner, on your way to the customer or handing the order to the customer, we want you to benefit from the Government making it clear that assaulting or threatening delivery riders will carry tougher penalties.
Our campaign is backed by the GMB Union with whom Deliveroo has an industry-first voluntary partnership agreement. This agreement enables us to consult with one of the UK's largest trade unions on health and safety, as well as other issues that matter to you. We're also calling on other delivery companies to back our campaign and help us fight for your safety.
Safety is always our first priority. That's why we offer all riders free accident and injury insurance, a free safety app, and launched our Respect Charter earlier this year, where 30 national restaurant and grocery brands pledged to build positive relationships with riders.
We hope that you'll share our 'Right to Ride Safely' campaign with other riders and join us in calling on the Government to better protect riders across the UK.
